2010 Silent Film Festival

The second Silent Film Festival will be November 5-7, 2010 at the La Paloma Theatre.
This year's festival will feature Joseph Buster Keaton one of Silent Film's
great comedic innovators.
Born in 1895 in Kansas, Buster Keaton is remembered for pioneering some
of film's greatest technical comedic moments in scores of shorts and numerous
full length films. His film THE GENERAL is considered by some to be
one of the finest films ever made.
Called the Great Stone Face because of his implacable facial gestures, Keaton
honed his deadpan skills in vaudeville where he began while still a toddler working
with his parents. A workaholic who ate, slept and lived comedy, he never cheesed
out a gag or over reacted to anything. He insisted on letting the comedy speak for
itself. Keaton worked with early comedy's greatest prophets and innovators: Rosco Arbuckle, Mack Sennett, Mabel Normand, Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd and many others.
The Encinitas Silent Film Festival will feature STEAMBOAT BILL JR, SHERLOCK
JR as well as several of Keaton's earliest and best shorts. Sunday, the LaPaloma will offer an
evening of Comedy Champs, a selection of shorts featuring the kings of silent
film comedy: Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Rosco Arbuckle, Laurel & Hardy
and Mabel Normand. Many of these early comedy forerunners worked together
at early studios and that's how they will be seen.
Once again, the festival films will be accompanied by live music featuring
Robert Israel.
